Hoosier National Forest Ride

09/23/2022 - 09/26/2022 All day
Comfort Inn - Plainfield, IN
Phone:(317) 204-3768
Address: 6107 Cambridge Way, Plainfield, IN 46168

This is an easy to medium gravel and back road ride. There will be deep gravel through rolling and scenic forest roads, and some twisty pavement. There are a few creek crossings (with work arounds if you don’t want to try them or if the weather is bad). We will throw in a few sightseeing opportunities, possibly including the fire tower, the Knightsridge Space Observatory ruins, and the Empire State Quarry. Newbies are required to climb the fire tower, in full gear.

There will be a ride down, on Friday for those that can make it. We will stay in Plainville, Indiana on Friday night. The real ride starts Saturday morning from Plainville to Tell City, IN with a route of about 250 miles. We will stay Saturday night in Tell City, departing Sunday morning to ride to Shelbyville, another 250-mile route. The ride leaders can stay overnight in Shelbyville and ride home Monday. Others may wish to ride home Sunday night.  The planned routes to Plainville and back from Shelbyville follow state and county roads with little or no freeway. There could be stretches of gravel, but these will not be “adventure” routes.

There are several hotels at each stop - Plainville, Tell City and Shelbyville, but the ride leaders will be staying at:

This is a TCD favorite, and we're heading back to Interlochen to view some magnificent fall foliage.  The official camp location is Cycle-Moore Campground (tent camping and RV hook-ups are available) just west of town on US-31.  For those who aren't fond of camping there's nearby lodging at the Interlochen Motel, about a mile north of the Interlochen State Park on M-137.   They also have a fire pit right on the property.  Typically, if the weather forecast if favorable, we often have 30 riders attend this event.  If the weather sucks, then only three or four.  We hope for beautiful fall weather.

Tawas Point State Park, East Tawas, MI. TCD members pay memorial tribute to those brave sailors who were lost when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank into the icy waters of Lake Superior.  We have dinner in East Tawas Saturday evening and then build a campfire you can see from the moon! Some are riding up Friday and others on Saturday, with some are camping at the Tawas Point State Park campground and others staying at either the Tawas Bay Beach Resort or the Bambi Motel.  A road ride on Saturday that starts and ends at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort will be planned, as will a Saturday dinner at the hotel's Bayside Grille & Lounge.  Dinner will be followed by a bonfire at the either the Tawas Point State Park or the Bambi Motel and a reading of the names of the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
