Join your fellow TCDers in the annual TCD run up to Michigan’s thumb for camping out at Sleeper State Park near Caseville. Enjoy some early autumn camping and a campfire overlooking the Saginaw Bay shore.  A planned 2-day event (although some stretch it a extra day), meet at the campground Saturday with 8-16 fellow TCDers.  It is highly recommended that you secure your campsite at Sleeper as soon as possible as the sites go quickly, phone and website for Sleeper State Park are listed above.  Event leader Dave DeCook has Campsite #56.

Routes for Sunday are either a tour along M-25 and scenic Lake Huron or a run to Milford's Camp Dearborn to attend the Battle of the Brits Motorcycle & Car show.

This is an easy to medium gravel and back road ride. There will be deep gravel through rolling and scenic forest roads, and some twisty pavement. There are a few creek crossings (with work arounds if you don’t want to try them or if the weather is bad). We will throw in a few sightseeing opportunities, possibly including the fire tower, the Knightsridge Space Observatory ruins, and the Empire State Quarry. Newbies are required to climb the fire tower, in full gear.

There will be a ride down, on Friday for those that can make it. We will stay in Plainville, Indiana on Friday night. The real ride starts Saturday morning from Plainville to Tell City, IN with a route of about 250 miles. We will stay Saturday night in Tell City, departing Sunday morning to ride to Shelbyville, another 250-mile route. The ride leaders can stay overnight in Shelbyville and ride home Monday. Others may wish to ride home Sunday night.  The planned routes to Plainville and back from Shelbyville follow state and county roads with little or no freeway. There could be stretches of gravel, but these will not be “adventure” routes.

There are several hotels at each stop - Plainville, Tell City and Shelbyville, but the ride leaders will be staying at:

    Friday, Sept. 23rdComfort Inn - 6107 Cambridge Way, Plainfield, IN 46168 Phone (317) 204-3768

Saturday, Sept. 24thHoliday Inn Express - 310 Orchard hill Dr, Tell City, IN 47586 Phone (812) 547-0800

This is a TCD favorite, and we're heading back to Interlochen to view some magnificent fall foliage.  The official camp location is the Interlochen State Park (tent camping, RV hook-ups and cottages are available) just south of town.  For those who aren't fond of camping there's nearby lodging at the Interlochen Motel, about a mile north of the Interlochen State Park on M-137.   They also have a fire pit right on the property.  Typically, if the weather forecast if favorable, we often have 30 riders attend this event.  If the weather sucks, then only three or four.  We hope for beautiful fall weather.

Please read and follow the Fall Color Tour postings under the Rides Forum
